Sigh of Relief

What a day yesterday was.  Oh, what a day.

It started out as a fairly normal day.  Kind of.  At 8:30 Addie had a doctor appointment for a hearing test.  One ear was fine.  The other has problems.  Perhaps that would explain why she can't hear us half the time unless we are hollering.

But that's neither here nor there.

We made multiple stops while in town.....court house for a few certifications (on our medicals that we did have to re-do), post office to mail the certified documents to the secretary of state for apostilles, KMart to look for boots for Addie (she's getting picky in her old age...she wants heels...like 1/4 inch ones....but heels nonetheless), Staples, Wal-Mart.  Somewhere between the post office and KMart I received the phone call that was refrenced yesterday.

Not a good phone call.  After three weeks of looking for plane tickets, we finally thought we had hit on the right ones.  Not so, according to our agency.

The tickets had us arriving a day too soon in Vlad, and therefore, we weren't able to get those tickets.  So.  The search began.

Our travel agent....Golden Rule Travel for any who are interested....is superb.  He ever so kindly started the search for different tickets....leaving one day later....and found that the ticket prices jumped about $1200 per person for that one day difference.  That would equal about $4800 more for our little family of four.

Wasn't an overly good option in my opinion.

So he continued searching.  Our final itinerary has us leaving January 7th.  We should arrive in Moscow January 8th.  After an overnight in Moscow, we should head on to Vlad on the 9th and should arrive in Vlad on the 10th.

Not the ideal flight times, but definitely better than spending nearly $5000 more.

My head hurts.  My eyes are tired.

I want to go back to bed.

BUT.  The tickets are booked!!!!!  Praise the Lord!!!!

Yesterday it became very obvious that Satan was working overtime trying to discourage us.  It worked.  Kind of.  I was discouraged.  I was tired.  I was ready to rent snowmobiles.  But not really.  I just wanted to buy tickets that would get us to our final destination without taking out a lifetime loan.

And really?!  God had great things planned.  We are paying less for this trip than we have ever paid before on plane tickets to Russia.

Now to match things up for that overnight in Moscow.  Because we are not doing exactly as our agency wanted us to do, we are on our own for that night.  Do we trust the taxi drivers?  Do we try to find a motel within walking distance of the airport?  Do we attempt to find some friends of friends to drive us to and from the airport?

I guess we have three weeks to figure all that nitty-gritty stuff out.

For now....I'm gonna relax.  And teach a little school.

Such a relief to have the tickets booked. If you are flying in to Sheremetyevo airport there are two hotels right next to it. On the way out we stayed at the one that you can rent for 6 hours or longer of course (I forget the name) and we walked to it. On the way back we stayed at Novotel which you can also see from the airport. We purchased the night through Expedia before leaving. It like $250 which for an airport hotel in Moscow is probably reasonable - it is much cheaper to book it ahead of time then to show up and pay. It was very easy to get there. They do a free shuttle to and from the hotel and airport. The shuttle leaves every 20-30 minutes 24 hours a day.
