Our little Day

Sunday was our little family Christmas as we had planned.  The day started like any other Sunday.  The children thumped out of bed, quickly made their beds, and tip-toed down the steps so they "wouldn't wake daddy and mommy".  They don't know just how noisy those old hardwood floors are.

They sneaked down the steps, took a quick sashay around the downstairs to see if we were up yet, and ended up standing quietly in our bedroom door waiting for the first wiggle from our bed.  Upon sight of that first wiggle, giggles erupted and they raced to see who could claim the spot right between Daddy and Mommy.

We halted them in their tracks though, when we told them to go get their stockings before they clambered into bed with us.

I don't think the squeals stopped for a full five minutes.  And that's a long time to have to cover your ears.

We put a slight damper on it when we announced that first we were going to read Luke 2.  Addie declared that she already knew what Luke 2 said and, lo and behold, she really did.  But we read it anyway.

She then informed us that the reason that we get Christmas gifts is that God gave us the great big gift of Jesus.  And that means that we have to give each other gifts.

They loved the Christmas story....even if it did keep them from tearing into their stockings as quickly.

Sometime during the reading of the Christmas story, Addie's 'poor man' got a broken leg.  I love their imaginations.  Sometimes.

They were beyond thrilled with their stash.  Half-full of socks, book for Will, Bible for Addie, cutesie lil cups for each, little pads of paper, and best of all....a pack of gum for each of them.  Immediately they were putting new socks on and tearing off pieces of paper.  Addie toted her Bible around the rest of the day while Will practiced throwing the only ball he owns that he's allowed to throw in the house.

The rest of the day went quickly.  We hung out on the registers trying to stay warm.....

We played with our new puppy....

We gobbled our lunch.  We put the children down for naps and when they woke up it was time to get ready for church.

It was a fun day.

And it was only as we were walking out the door to head to church that we remembered that the children had never opened their actual Christmas presents.

We totally forgot about them.
