Wednesday update

It's Wednesday again.  The week rolls by so fast.  Make that...the weeks roll by so fast.

We've been home from Russia for nine weeks and four days now.  Nine weeks.  Four days.  That's a long time.

That would be the equivalant of sixty-seven days.  Wow.

The judge has had our paperwork for only 15 days now.  Which means that she has another 45 days to use up if she so pleases.  Forty-five more days to review our documents.  Forty-five more days to find any 'mistakes' that we made.  Forty-five more days to request additional documents.

Day sixty for the judge will be January 1, 2011.  January 1, 2011.  That seems like a lifetime away.

I talked to a family Monday who had the same judge for court just last month.  She said court didn't go too badly...only lasted two hours...but the judge did use up the full 60 day time frame to review their dossier.  She also had them redo the same document three times in that time cause the wording wasn't exactly right on it.

Please join us in prayer that the judge will have a soft heart.  That she will have blinders on when she reviews our dossier.  That she will be having a good day/week while she is reading about our family.

I really don't know what else she could possibly want from us.  She knows everything about our family...including our brothers/sisters/parents/nieces/nephews.  Bet they didn't know that!  Their information is now sitting in front of a judge in Russia.  Nothing personal, of course.  Just names, ages, jobs, and weight.   Oh.  Not really on that weight thing.

This stack of documents is just a portion of the dossier that she is burrowing through.  She has my sympathy.

The full list would look like this.  Oh.  You didn't want to know?  I'm sorry.  I think it'll be nice to look back at this list someday.  You are welcome to skip past it...
  1. Court petition - petition to adopt little Jack Nickolay
  2. Medical conclusion of our little guy
  3. Petition to conduct a search - actually done way back when
  4. Home study - you don't even want to know what all documents that took.  Medicals, fire inspection, many visits with a social worker, well water test (that failed the first time), hours of class time, etc.
  5. Home study agency's license
  6. Certified copy of our marriage license
  7. Financial statement
  8. Copy of first page of passport - Jason
  9. Copy of first page of passport - Jody
  10. Empoyment verification - Jason
  11. Physicians report - complete with bloodwork and chest x-rays - Jason
  12. Physicians report - complete with bloodwork and chest x-rays - Jody
  13. Copy of Physician's license
  14. Letter from Medical Board from our state verifying that our doctor's really are doctors
  15. Proof of home ownership
  16. Deed to our house
  17. Photos - four pages...include inside and outside of our house and our family
  18. INS approval - approval from our government to bring an orphan home with us
  19. Local police clearance - Jason
  20. Local police clearance - Jody
  21. Affidavit to register a child with the Russian consulate
  22. Copy of our state law regarding adoption
  23. Power of attorney for our in country rep
  24. Power of attorney for Jason
  25. Power of attorney for Jody
  26. Psychological exam for both together
  27. Copy of psychologist's license
  28. Copy of social worker's license
  29. And a few more documents that have nothing to do with us and everything to do with our agency
However, there is one thing that she doesn't have sitting in front of her.  A copy of the title to our car.  Um-hm.  We know a family who truly had to show the title to their car.  Seems a little crazy....but I guess that it would be nice for the judge to know that the child will have some mode of transportation.

Hopefully this is the week.  Hopefully we will find something out in the next couple of days.  A court date would be nice.  But even a new document to do would be okay.  After all, at least then I would feel like we were doing something toward bringing our son home.  It's hard to just sit here.

Though if you could see my desk right now, you would wonder why I am complaining of just sitting here and not working on the mountains of bookwork.

Building Blocks in Medina, Ohio. They aren't actually accredited to work in Russia so they work through Beacon House in Louisiana (I think). We used them last time as well...so nice to work with folks that you already know!!
Praying things are going well?!
