Dressing up

Just recently, Addie discovered that she can finally reach the clothes hanging in her closet.  She was thrilled.  Now she begs to be able to "dress herself".  She spends about 15 minutes each morning browsing through her closet, acting as if something new is going to pop up overnight.  She pulls dresses out and holds them up to herself.  She feels all the fabric to see if it's soft enough.  And she always chooses something bright and cheery.

A while back, before she discovered that she could reach her clothes, she had to pacify her "dress herself" longing with dress up clothes.  The last night that we took supper to the field this fall she came to the car like this.

She dug through the dress up clothes and ended up wearing an ancient shawl that I actually used to wear.  For real.  I think she got a little chilly, though, as she has yet to choose to wear that thing out of the house again.

She just knew that Daddy would be really 'pressed.

Boy, was he ever.  While he rolled his eyes at me over her head and turned his head to smirk, he made her feel just like a princess.

Then one day last week she got to go with Daddy to work.  She raced in the house to "get ready to go".  About 15 minutes later, she came out looking like this.

She was pleased as punch.  Especially pleasing was how well her tights matched her dress.  I didn't correct her.

Off she went to spend the day with Daddy.  Baby in one hand, loaded down purse in the other, she tripped her way to the pick-up.

And, once again, Daddy made her feel like a princess with all his exclaiming over her nice get-up.

I trust that someday she will have a little better sense of fashion.
