Needin' a Lasso

Two days ago....that'd be Wednesday....on perhaps the coldest day we've had in our neck of the woods so far...my dear husband asked me ever so kindly if I could 'come help' for a little bit.

Of course, I was just sitting here reading a book by the fire (which we don't have) and jumped up immediately to go help.

Turns out, he was trying to load two measly 1,000 pound cows into a trailer and needed my expertise.

It didn't go well.

The things were wild.  Way wild.  We got them close to the trailer and things went haywire.

One cow walked calmly onto the trailer while the other lost her head and went crazy.  She tried to push her way through a great big heavy gate, got her head stuck between the bars, mowed down the whole corral.  She was stuck.  Really stuck.  Her head was parallel to the ground.  She had her neck twisted at an angle that made  me fear we would have a butchering right then and there.

Attached to her neck were five corral panels.  Not a pretty sight.

She finally got herself untangled and went ky-yiying across the pasture.  Even more wild than before.

Meanwhile, the cow that Jason had penned up in the trailer was frantically trying to get back out.  He tried to jump out the window...which was far too little for him to fit through.  He didn't make that attempt.

He kept trying.  He was nothing if not persistent.

Finally, despite having all the food he could possibly want thrown into him, he decided that he could surely jump the divider in the trailer.  And he did.  He crashed over the top and raced back to pasture to join his friend.

It was not a happy time.

We gave up.  But I have yet to inform Jason that next time he tries, he may have to find a new 'helper'.  This one just simply doesn't enjoy having to dodge angry 1,000 pound cows.

And.  While all that was happening, Addie was thoroughly enjoying playing in the sheep's water.  Til we caught on, she was frozen like a giant sized ice cube.

Apparently her mommy neglected to warn her of the consequences of playing in water in below freezing temperatures.

It was not a good day.  But at least we were all successful at dodging cows and are still alive to tell about it.
